Student Global Ambassador Program (“SGAP Leaders”) respects individuals’ concerns about the privacy of their personal information and is committed to protecting the privacy of the people who communicate with us. This Privacy Policy seeks to help you better understand (a) what information we collect about you; (b) how we collect and use your information; (c) how we share and protect your information; (c) your choices regarding our use of such information; and (e) your ability to access and correct your information. This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect from you or about you via our website online (the “SGAP Leaders Site”), offline via written or verbal communications with us, social networking, or through other sources such as your participation in SGAP Leaders events, programs, projects or student surveys.

By using the SGAP Leaders Site, you accept this Policy Statement and the Terms of Use, both of which may be updated by us at any time. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy for any reason, please do not use the SGAP Leaders Site or share your information with us as discussed below.

Personal Information

The personal information we collect typically consists of or includes, but is not limited to:

  • email address
  • username
  • birth date

This information is requested when you: (a) participate in a SGAP Leaders program as a student, educator, volunteer or other capacity; (b) join the SGAP Leaders Site or create a user account; (c) submit a comment; (d) make a donation; or (e) otherwise similarly interact with SGAP Leaders.

In limited circumstances in connection with SGAP Leaders events, we may also collect:

Information We Collect

By Automated Means When you visit and interact with the SGAP Leaders Site, we may collect information that does not inherently reveal your specific identity. SGAP Leaders uses this information to understand better how visitors use the SGAP Leaders Site, research our visitors’ demographics, interests, and behavior, and provide visitors with customized services and information. SGAP Leaders also uses the information collected to assess and improve our program, improve our promotional and outreach efforts, and for other similar purposes.   • Performing analytics concerning your use of our online services, including your responses to our emails and the pages you view;

What Personal Information We Share With Others

We may share the information we collect from and about you within our organization and with certain third parties. For example, we may share your information with:

  • Credit card processing companies, to process donations;
  • Other network partners in order to provide you information on additional related programmatic opportunities;
  • Other organizations we work with to provide services, research, products or programs;
  • Other similar charities;

Security and Third-Party Sites

Although the SGAP Leaders Site has certain security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information you provide, no email or web transmission is completely secure against interception or incorrect routing. Thus, there is always the risk that unauthorized persons may access or use your personally identifiable information. If you are worried because your communication is very sensitive, please contact us as indicated in the “How to Contact Us” section below to coordinate sending your information via encrypted email.

Credit Card Transactions

All credit card transactions processed through the SGAP Leaders Site occur via a secure area payment gateway to protect you from any loss, misuse, or alteration of information collected. When you make a donation, your credit card information is protected through the use of encryption.

Remember that we cannot protect your privacy once you leave the SGAP Leaders Site, such as by hyperlink. We do not control the privacy policies or practices of other websites, even if you reach them by clicking on a link on our website. When you visit other websites, we encourage you to check each site’s privacy policy, and be careful about the information you submit or share. In addition, you should only forward our email messages or other website information (such as our job postings) to others through the buttons or links provided within the email or the SGAP Leaders Site. When you use your email system’s forwarding capabilities, others may be able to take actions in your name and/or access your personal information.

User Generated Content

Some of our services and social networking features may enable you to submit your own content for public posting. Information you post in this fashion becomes public information and is not subject to this Privacy Policy. Certain areas of our websites and our social media pages may enable users to submit personal information to SGAP Leaders or its partners. Such information will be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Letters of Encouragement Project

We invite 13-18 year old students to create their own letters, drawings, short stories or poems to share with residents in local Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Centers who have been affected by the Pandemic or who have been isolated for other reasons.

Rules

Students earn a total of up to 4 community service hours (SSL) by participating. The recipients are residents in local nursing homes. Students may forward their submissions as a PDF to service@SGAPleaders.org or they may mail their hand-written submissions to SGAP Leaders ℅ 2211 Wimbledon Circle Silver Spring MD 20906.

Parents or guardians may mail or drop-off hand-written submissions to SGAP Leaders c/o 15800 Crabbs Branch Road, # 300, Rockville, MD 20855.

Each student must complete an online registration (QR code). Registration forms may be forwarded to parents or students upon request. We will accept submissions (letters, drawings, poems and short stories) until midnight on September 30, 2020. Each approved submission accounts for 30 minutes of community service. To receive community service hours, we ask that student include their first name, grade and school name on their submissions, as well as adhere to the submission specifications below:

  1. Letter – at least 150 word
  2. Drawings – must be submitted on a 8" x11" sheet of paper
  3. Short Story – at least 250 words (may include illustrations)
  4. Poems – at least 50 words
  5. All submission must be the student’s original work (please do not plagiarize someone else’s work)

SGAP Leaders reserves the right not to accept submissions which include any form of vulgarity, nudity, or any and all offensive terms which may demean or insult any individual or group of people. Please note: Nursing Home and Assisted Living residents may not respond to submissions received.

Students may answer one of the following prompts as aids with their submissions:

  1. What signs of encouragement have you witnessed over the past months?
  2. What do you do or say to encourage yourself or others?
  3. Share a story of how a complete stranger encouraged you.

Privacy

Please, do not share any pictures or likeness of the students as well as personal information such as home address, email or phone number etc. We ask that students include their first name, grade and school only on each submission. All approved submissions will be shared with residents of Nursing and Assisted Living facilities. Please note: Nursing Home and Assisted Living residents may not respond to submissions received.

How you earn your community service hours (SSL):

Each approved submission accounts for 30 minutes of community service. The maximum number of community service hours earned is 4. Community service forms with the total hours earned will be distributed via email to the students (cc’d to parents) to those students who complete registration, adhered to the rules and email or drop off their submissions.

A Special Note on Children

We are concerned about the safety and privacy of children who use the internet and who participate in our program. Our website is not designed for or directed to individuals under the age of 13. No information should be submitted nor posted to the SGAP Leaders Site by individuals under the age of 13 without express parental consent. In certain jurisdictions, notification, prior written permission, or other verifiable consent may be required of a parent or Guardian® for children from 13 to 17. If you believe your child has provided us with information without your consent, please email us at the address set forth in the “How to Contact Us” section below.

All information collected will be treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. Parents have the right to restrict access to their children’s information. Parents should be aware that exercising such rights will restrict their child’s use of the Site and potential participation in SGAP Leaders activities. If for any reason you are concerned that your child’s personally identifiable information maintained by SGAP Leaders is not correct or complete, should you wish to have your child’s personal information deleted from our records, or if you want SGAP Leaders to discontinue further collection or use of your child’s personal information, please email us at address set forth in the “How to Contact Us” section below.

Visiting Our Website from Outside the United States

If you are visiting our website from outside of the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored or processed in the United States, where our servers and headquarters are located. The data protection and other laws of the United States might not be as comprehensive as those in your country, but please be assured that we take steps to protect your privacy. By using our website, you understand that your information may be transferred to our facilities and those third parties with whom we share it as described in this Privacy Policy.

Updates to this Privacy Policy

We may amend or change this Privacy Policy at any time. In the event of any material change, SGAP Leaders will post a clear notice of such a revision to this Policy on the SGAP Leaders Site. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting unless otherwise indicated.

Updating And Accessing Your Personal Information

Keeping your account information and preferences up to date is very important to us. You have rights over your personal information may include the right to review your information, request that we stop using it, or update account information. You can do this by logging in and accessing the account profile section of each online service for which you have registered. If you cannot locate, access or make desired changes to the information or permissions online, you may send a request by emailing us at service@SGAPLeaders.org. Of course, we cannot track down “de-identified” information to change it or undo any prior use of data we already used with your actual or implied consent.
